Spring Production dates in search of a director

The dates for the Spring Production (Thursday- Saturday, 11th-13th May) have been provisionally booked, but as yet we do not have a director. However there are still 3 months for auditions and rehearsals.

If you feel the call to direct a production please contact me before next week's AGM, on 01934 7120992 or email: sjburton1012@gmail.com

There is an excellent back-stage crew to call upon to assist you. It is always good to be able to hand a full programme of events over to the incoming committee after the AGM in January. I look forward to hearing from a brave soul!

Wedmore Opera

Wedmore Opera 2017

This year’s offering by Wedmore Opera is Pirates of Penzance, the ever popular two act comic opera by Gilbert and Sullivan.

Performances will be on 6th, 7th and 8th July in Wedmore Village Hall. The whole cast, chorus and soloists are drawn from the local community, such talent in such a small Somerset Village.

If you are interested in being part of this and future productions just make contact, we welcome singers for the chorus as well as help backstage. You can also sign up to receive regular email briefings just visit our brand new website  and get in touch.

Synopsis of Pirates of Penzance

The story concerns Frederic, who, having completed his 21st year, is released from his apprenticeship to a band of tender-hearted pirates. He meets Mabel, the daughter of Major-General Stanley, and the two young people fall instantly in love. Frederic soon learns, however, that he was born on the 29th of February, and so, technically, he has a birthday only once each leap year.

His indenture specifies that he remain apprenticed to the pirates until his "twenty-first birthday", meaning that he must serve for another 63 years. Bound by his own sense of duty, Frederic's only solace is that Mabel agrees to wait for him faithfully.
